Description
I wrote this song on the evening I got the news about Jaco’s passing … and left it unattended on a shelf in my music studio for a few months. Chancing upon it, I decided to pay homage to my old bandmate and friend by recording it on an album titled “Who Loves Ya?” (an ‘all-star’ assemblage of players paying their respects to Jaco Pastorius), and then later with such groups as the WDR Big Band as well as Trio E-L-B (with guitarist Nguyen Le and bassist Michel Benita).
A Bb part is included, and the song may be played in just about any configuration of Ā musicians/instruments.
The tune is also known as “Song For A Friend” (It was used recently at the close of the television series ‘pen15’ episode titled “Yuki”.)
