Peter Erskine has started a new CD label

Introducing
Fuzzy Music
What is Fuzzy Music?
Fuzzy music, understood and used in the best sense, signifies good music
which may defy categorization, yet has insular or perhaps universal appeal.
Our name reflects our belief that whether in science, music, or even in
life itself, everything is a matter of degree; a continuum in which there
are multivalues, rather than precise delineations. Sometimes there are no
hard lines or boundaries that can quantify or qualify one music as
"jazz"
and another as "easy listening" or "adult oriented",
"world", "pop", "contemporary" or whatever.
Guided by a wealth of influences, many artists find themselves dipping into
rich cultural pools of musical styles, beliefs and realities that do not
fit into the large, corporate/record company way of thought or aesthetics.
The only way to make some of this music available was to start our own company.
Fuzzy Music has been created and is offered to you in a spirit of creativity
and conscience, with our promise to strive earnestly to find and produce
the best quality music we know how.
Peter & Mutsy Erskine
Or ... put another way:
"The things of the universe are not sliced off from one another with
a hatchet, neither the hot from the cold nor the cold from the hot."
- Anaxagoras
Well ... we'd like to think that all of the music on our first 3 CDs would
qualify as "hot." You could say that it's all pretty "cool,"
too. Hence, then, our moniker. This is music that we like and believe in,
and are happy to make available by way of mail order. We hope that "word
of mouth" will reach interested ears, but also realize that a free
press and Internet, being an essential part of our country's doctrine, is
also a legitimate and necessary part of informing music-lovers of our existence
and product! Towards that end, we proudly announce our birth, and offer
a description of Fuzzy Music's first 3 releases and news regarding
future releases
- All About Love
- Joe Mazzone sings "All About Love" in such an evocative and compelling way that you will, in effect, hear these great standards again for the very first time. Accompanying Joe are pianist Frank Collette - best known for
his work with Sarah Vaughn; bassist Dave Carpenter; woodwind artist Bob
Sheppard; and myself, Peter Erskine on drums.
- Beach Ball
- "Beach Ball" is guitarist Dirk K.'s celebration of the kind of
life and music where the sun always shines. The influences heard here range
from Brazil to Los Angeles, and Wes Montgomery to George Benson. Dirk and
I have chosen a stellar group of musicians to accompany him: pianist Alan
Pasqua is a consummate keyboard player; Marc Johnson is, as always, the
perfect bassist for any project; and Paulinho Da Costa's percussion overture
to the album is, perhaps, the definitive batucada for our times. Sit back
and enjoy the virtual beach party!
- From Kenton To Now
- Tenor saxophonist Richard Torres' playing is a terrific combination of Ben
Webster and Sonny Rollins, Zoot Sims and John Coltrane. But, somehow, his
sound is UNIQUE. Richard and I had not played together for almost 20 years
(since the Kenton days) when he called me up one day and came over to the
house with some burritos and his saxophone. We jammed a little, and I was
left with such a good taste in my mouth that I decided to book some time
in my favorite studio, and produce an album of myself and Richard playing
in a small group setting. The gods were smiling upon us that day; we recorded
this CD in about 4 hours! Since that was the way most of the recordings
by our favorite musicians had been done, it didn't seem like that big of
a deal, though I guess it represents a refreshing change from the way most
recordings are done nowadays. Of course, you need a good band to do this.
And we had the best musicians to work with: Alan Pasqua and Dave Carpenter.
Future/Planned/Pending Releases

Los Angeles.
